How to Spend Father’s Day in LoDo: Rockies at Coors Field, the World Cup at McGregor Square, and More
What do Denver dads love more than a good adventure? Not much—and the good news for Father’s Day 2026 is that LoDo has a host of great options. The Colorado Rockies host the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday afternoon, and three FIFA World Cup games will be showing on McGregor Square’s 66-foot Big Screen. Throw in some of LoDo’s best restaurants and bars, and the biggest challenge of the day will be figuring out what you actually have time to do—and what you’ll have to save for later.
Start the Day
Coffee
Pick your caffeine fix: Amante Coffee is near the Oxford Hotel on 17th Street and serves coffee made with beans imported from a third-generation Italian roaster in a bright, European-style space. Over at Denver Union Station, Pigtrain Coffee Co. serves locally roasted Conscious Coffee alongside house-baked pastries and one of the best patios in LoDo.
Brunch
Rioja’s Sunday brunch has earned its reputation as one of Denver’s best. Jennifer Jasinski’s Mediterranean spot in Larimer Square turns out everything from the Rioja Benedict to avocado toast to the renowned Colorado lamb burger—all served in an elegant but relaxed room that’s perfect for the occasion.
At The Original, brunch leans American comfort: the short rib Benedict, the steak and eggs, and the chicken and biscuits with hot honey glaze all hit the Father’s Day brunch sweet spot. The mid-century setting is airy and bright, and it’s adjacent to the McGregor Square Big Screen if the World Cup is on the day’s agenda.
Spa
The Oxford Club & Spa has a full menu of massages, facials, and body treatments , and Father’s Day is a perfect time to book something special—a Customized Massage, the Elements Stone Massage, or the CBD Recovery + Glutathione Boost, if your dad just summited a 14er and is still feeling it.
A few blocks away in Larimer Square, Sway Wellness Spa, which was voted the #4 Best Day Spa in America by USA Today, offers a massage program with deep tissue, sports, salt stone, and CBD options, pluse the Remedy Room—a 40-minute recovery circuit with sauna, cold plunge, compression therapy, and LED light therapy. Sway also has an Aescape massage chair: an AI-powered robot massage that uses body mapping and dual robotic arms for a fully personalized session.
The Main Event: Choose Your Own Adventure
Option A: The Rockies
Few things are better than a ballgame at Coors Field on a sunny summer afternoon. First pitch for the Rockies versus the Pittsburgh Pirates is 1:10 p.m., and it will likely be toasty. If you’re looking for shade, get seats on the third base/left field side of the ballpark—and don’t forget to bring water and sunscreen.
Option B: The World Cup
McGregor Square’s 66-foot Big Screen is a perfect spot to watch World Cup games, with free admission and advance registration encouraged through Eventbrite for Father’s Day games. The Sunday slate includes three games on the Jumbotron:
- 10 a.m. — Spain versus Saudi Arabia
- 1 p.m. — Belgium versus Iran
- 4 p.m. — Uruguay versus Cape Verde
McGregor Square Food & Drink opens at 11 a.m., with stalls including G-Que BBQ, Anthony’s Pizza & Pasta, C Burger, Tora Sushi + Ramen, and High Point Creamery for dessert, plus a self-serve beer wall. The viewing area is open air, so you’ll also want to bring water and sunscreen, if you’re going to be taking in any of the games.
Option C: Both
If Dad wants a full day of sports, Spain versus Saudi Arabia kicks off at 10 a.m. on the Big Screen, which will give you plenty of time to be in your seats at Coors Field for first pitch. If you’re up for soccer after the Rockies game, walk back to McGregor Square and you’ll likely be able to catch most, if not all, of the Uruguay versus Cape Verde match at 4 p.m.
Dinner, Drinks, and a Nightcap
Dinner
For dinner, head to Tavernetta in Union Station. The restaurant, part of the Frasca Hospitality Group, builds its menu around handmade pasta and a massive Italian wine list. The room is warm, modern and inviting, which means you might consider reservations on a holiday Sunday (though Tavernetta does take walk-ins).
Drinks and Games
If you’re looking for something more casual, Wynkoop Brewing Co. operates Denver’s largest pool hall on its second floor: 15 tournament-sized billiards tables, two shuffleboard tables, and two dart lanes, with the brewpub on the first floor and the brewery in the basement.
A Nightcap
The Cruise Room at the Oxford Hotel opened in 1933, the day after Prohibition was repealed, and hasn’t changed much since. That’s the point. The Art Deco room is intimate and warm, the bartenders mix up classic cocktails—it’s the perfect place to end Father’s Day.
