One Perfect Day at... McGregor Square

Just steps from Coors Field, McGregor Square is the anchor of LoDo’s Ballpark District—a place where game-day anticipation, weekend brunches, and last-minute happy hours all converge. On Rockies game days, McGregor can feel like an extension of the stadium itself. On quieter afternoons, it’s a compact, vibrant microdistrict that is welcoming for both locals meeting friends and visitors exploring downtown. Whether you’re building your day around first pitch or simply looking for a reliable LoDo itinerary, here’s how to make the most of it.

9:30 a.m: Breakfast at The Original
Start your day at The Original, a bright, mid-century-inspired diner, where you’ll see families fueling up, couples lingering over coffee, and groups in Rockies gear getting a head start on the day. Try the short rib Benedict, which is savory and filling, or the chorizo hash to wake up your palate.

1:30 p.m: Lunch at Tom’s Watch Bar
By early afternoon, the volume tends to rise at Tom’s Watch Bar. With more than 100 TV screens lining the walls, it’s one of Denver’s most immersive sports-viewing spots—especially during Rockies home stands or major national games. The menu focuses on elevated pub fare designed for sharing: The deep-dish steak nachos are perfect for a group, and the prime rib dip is a Tom’s classic.

2:30 p.m: The Plaza and Local Shops
After lunch, check out the plaza, the open-air heart of McGregor Square. A 66-foot LED screen anchors the space and broadcasts games, movies, and major national events. On game days, the plaza fills up with fans in purple and black. On off days, it’s an easy place to grab a seat, meet friends, and enjoy Denver’s famously sunny afternoons.

If you’re looking for a little retail therapy, Chained Up offers permanent jewelry—custom-welded bracelets and necklaces designed without clasps. Sports fans will also want to visit The Rally Store which, of course, has Rockies gear, in addition to merch from Denver’s other pro teams.

5:00 p.m: Cocktails at Call Me Pearl
As the afternoon transitions into evening, Call Me Pearl provides a welcome change of pace. The intimate cocktail lounge trades the surrounding sports-bar energy for moodier lighting, a more refined atmosphere, and classic cocktails—all of which make it an ideal reset before dinner.

7:30 p.m: Dinner at the Square
Carmine’s at McGregor Square is a must-visit for Italian fare and has evolved beyond its family-style roots. Individual portions of pastas, steaks, and seafood make Carmine’s just as practical for date night as it is for a group gathering. On Rockies home-game days, reservations are strongly recommended.

If Colorado-Mexican cuisine is calling your name, La Loma—which was founded in 1973 and has become a Denver institution—is known for its green chile, homemade tortillas, and margaritas.

Staying Overnight: The Rally Hotel
Whether you’re visiting from out of town—or planning a staycation—The Rally Hotel is the centerpiece of McGregor Square. The baseball theme is woven into the decor thoughtfully, with design details that nod to the sport without feeling heavy handed, and the Skybridge rooftop deck offers direct views into Coors Field, a perspective that never gets old—especially when the stadium lights come on.

Before You Go

Parking
McGregor Square’s underground garage is convenient but fills quickly before Rockies home games, with rates increasing accordingly. If you’re dining or staying overnight, using the valet at The Rally is a smart option.

Check the Rockies Schedule
Game days significantly change the feel of the Square: Expect heavier foot traffic, higher noise levels, and longer restaurant waits. If you prefer a calmer visit, plan around the Rockies’ home schedule.

Review the Plaza Calendar
The 66-foot LED screen isn’t just for baseball. “Movies at McGregor” nights, playoff watch parties, and major national broadcasts regularly draw crowds. A quick look at the calendar will help you decide whether you’re stepping into a full-scale event—or a more relaxed LoDo afternoon.
